Illustrations for Bioterra Switzerland
Nicole Egloff, an enthusiastic organic gardener and self-sufficient farmer, provided readers of Bioterra magazine with insights throughout the year into the planning, care, and maintenance of her organic garden as a self-sufficient farmer. I had the privilege of illustrating the series with my detailed drawings. The result is a series of vibrant collages and atmospheric vignettes that offer readers an authentic glimpse into gardening as a self-sufficient person.
More about the project:
Collage illustrations for Bioterra
The illustrations for Bioterra were created as collage-style lead images featuring many details and actions within the frame. They were complemented by vignettes and colored background areas that create a cohesive overall atmosphere for the double-page spreads.
A special benefit: The project was set up as an open document. This made it possible to flexibly extract individual illustration elements and use them as vignettes on other pages. This modular approach saves time and money for the editorial and layout teams and makes the illustrations highly versatile.
This project demonstrates just how versatile editorial illustration can be: from large collage illustrations for magazine covers to small vignettes that can be used in a variety of ways. Illustrations really come into their own when it comes to topics such as gardening, self-sufficiency, and sustainability, making complex content easy to understand, atmospheric, and vibrant.
