As a live sketch artist, I create custom portraits right at your event. A single portrait takes about 4–5 minutes, and a couple portrait takes around 8–10 minutes. That means I can draw about 10 people per hour at an event – personal, entertaining, and ready to take home right away.
The concept can also be easily adapted for larger events. If you have a lot of guests, a second illustrator can help out, or the portraits can be finished after the event and mailed out later. This makes live drawing a special highlight and a high-quality keepsake for your guests, even at bigger company parties, trade shows, and customer events.
From Portraits to Product Illustrations
Every event is unique, and your illustrations can be just as tailored. For single portraits, I need about 4–5 minutes, and for couple portraits, 8–10. Depending on how time-consuming the hairstyles and outfits are, I can do about 10 people per hour. How many people I can draw also depends on the event’s organisation and the guests. When I get into a good flow, I can draw a lot of portraits. If guests have a packed schedule and no one joins the queue, I may draw fewer. One thing is certain: I always do my best to draw as many people as possible.

A table (large enough to accommodate my art supplies and some finished illustrations for display), a chair, and a power outlet within a 5-metre radius. Three to four square metres of space is more than enough for my setup.
A relatively quiet spot – please don’t place me right next to the DJ’s speakers. Even though I may seem relaxed, I’m highly focused while I work. Maintaining that focus is essential to achieving the best results.

Sure, I love outdoor events. The key is having the right temperature. A temperature of 20 degrees should always be guaranteed (e.g., with radiant heaters), since I get cold quickly when I’m sitting still and concentrating. There should be an alternative plan in case of rain.

Depending on how you plan to use event sketching – whether it's live, from a photo, or a combination of both – one approach or another may be recommended.
Live – including the models:
A real crowd-pleaser for guests. They pose for just 2 to 3 minutes and then come over to watch their very own artwork come to life. There's usually a little line waiting, but everyone loves watching the magic happen. It's a lovely, relaxing experience where guests can enjoy watching the process and take home a wonderful picture at the end.
From a photo:
The drawing happens more in the background. Guests quickly get their photo taken, and I draw them one by one. Whether I can get to all guests depends on how many hours I'm booked for.
The combination:
You and your guests get the 100% live experience on site. If there are too many guests to fit into my scheduled time slot, I take photos of the rest of the guests and finish them at home. That way, employees can still get their gift even after the event.

I'm Tanja Meyer an Illustrator and Live Event Artist from Germany. For over ten years, I've been creating custom illustrations for publishers, companies, and brands.
My studies in communication design, with a focus on illustration, at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands laid the foundation for my diverse body of work. Today, I combine traditional drawing techniques with a modern illustration style to create live illustrations that inspire people and bring brands to life.
Whether it’s a corporate event, trade show, product launch, or a premium hospitality event: I sketch custom portraits, products, and brand-specific motifs right on site, creating a unique conversation starter for your guests.
